Baklava Buns

Yield: 6 Big

Ingredients

Recipe

  • 50 g Sugar
  • 2 T Orange Zest
  • 350 g Flour
  • 10 g Dry Yeast
  • 5 g Salt
  • 1 Egg
  • 180 g Almond Milk, warm
  • 40 g Margarine or Oil
  • 75 g pistachios, roasted & chopped
  • 75 g Pecans, roasted & chopped
  • 1½ t Cinnamon

Filling

  • 75 g Margarine, softened
  • 120 g Sugar
  • 1 t Orange Zest
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 t Vanilla
  • 75-100 g Almond Flour

Topping

  • Honey

Instructions

    Dough: mix sugar and orange zest.

    Mix in dry, then egg and almond milk.

    Add margarine, knead till smooth (will feel off at first, keep going).

    Cover, rise 1 hour to double.

    Filling: mix ingredients, fridge.

    Nut mixture: mix roasted nuts with cinnamon.

    Divide dough into 6 balls, rest 10 minutes.

    Roll each into 8x4" rectangle.

    Spread ~3 T filling leaving ½" edge.

    Sprinkle ⅙ of nut mixture, gently pressing.

    Roll up from long side with filling.

    Seal edges, roll to elongate slightly.

    Cut in half lengthwise, cross halves into X, twist both sides from middle.

    Twist into bun from one edge, tuck end under.

    Place on lined sheet, repeat.

    Rise 30-45 minutes (should be puffy).

    Bake on 350 for 25-30 minutes, rotating midway.

    Drizzle honey straight from oven.
